The Best of Casey
Casey came to live with us
over 12 years ago.
She bounded in with energy
not knowing where to go.
She darted here, skittled there
sliding on the floor.
But made us laugh when she squeezed her collie body
through the little kitty door!
Casey loved to take long walks
and she really loved to eat.
But at the park one day she chased some bagels
right into the street!
One Christmas, Casey helped us decorate
but we wanted her looking better.
So we bought a yuletide treat for her
And dressed her in a sweater.
Well, Casey had a different thought
She just did not approve.
So she plopped down on the kitchen floor
and then refused to move!
Our Casey had a gourmet pallet
She sometimes had food issues.
So she'd wait until we left the room
then feasted on the tissues.
She tried to act so innocent
Her eyes said, "What'd I do?"
Until a closer look at her
Showed the tissues had been chewed.
But the best Casey story
Is when we left with someplace to go.
You could look up at the window
And see her cute black nose.
She'd press against the window
And flash that sad little face.
To let you know she'd be waiting
In her special place.
Goodbye dear Casey
Life without you won't be the same
But I’ll always see you jump and dance
whenever I whisper your name.
Wherever you are
This will always be true.
My life is infinitely better
from spending years with you.
