Maverick was a true sheperd dog. He hiked and visited most of the
eastern
states and swam on beaches all up and down the coast. He even
hiked the
Rockies, guiding and watching us the whole way. After a
divorce, Maverick
and I moved to NYC so I could go back to school.
Times weren't as easy as
before, but we stuck together in our tiny
apartment and shared our hot dogs
in the park.
Most of all Maverick was a people dog. He knew his best
friends by
name, would stop and wait for someone to come out a car that
looked
like theirs, memorized the routes to their homes and would welcome
them ecstatically after years of absence. He wanted nothing more than
to love and protect all of his people.
