Stewart was a good cat.
Written by James Steele
He was a stray that a family member took in, then decided to make "the office cat." This poor animal spent most of his days alone or with one other cat for almost ten years. I always liked him but could not take him home (three other cats plus a dog which was one over the limit).

When one then another of the cats died between 2001 and 2004, I decided to bring him home.

What a pest! He decided to make up for lost time by getting all the attention he could, which he got.

I learned to type at the keyboard with one hand because the other was keeping him busy in my lap, or to type with the keyboard in my lap with him on the desk.

After a workout, he would find where I was resting and make himself proximate. He tore up my favorite chair, shredded a few shirts, and always, always missed the litter box.

He also favored me with lizards, a few mice and one very large rat.

Three weeks ago he looked completely healthy, but a day later he started losing weight, and I got him to the vet two weeks ago. Diagnosis - lymphoma. One week ago, he had lost more weight. One week ago he also got his last mouse which he left on the keyboard, thank you very much.

Up until yesterday, he was trying for one more mouse. By yesterday he had lost so much weight that I thought he should be put to sleep, but on the way to the vet, he perked up and hugged me and looked around, same old cat. Always making himself look friendly.

We hydrated him, and he had one more good day. He was put down late this afternoon.

You don't know what you've got till he's gone.

I just hope I made up for all the lonely years. I think so. I know the cat liked living up until the last twelve hours.

He will be missed. They don't make many with that much personality.
