In Loving Memory of Sugar aka. Sugar Booger October 29, 2005 – May 7, 2008 Sugar was a mix of collie and Australian Shepherd and led a very pleasant life. She was always eager to take a walk around the neighborhood and find new scents and meet her fellow canine friends. Always very friendly, she loved to say hi to the dogs we passed. When we first adopted her, she was a very scared little dog. She huddled under the chair as we signed the papers to have ownership of her. Back at home, little Sugar did not eat for a few days but instead lay frightened in the corner of her bed. Not sooner than a couple days, there was a windy day when we took her out to potty that she got loose and ran away. All day we searched for Sugar and hoped she’d come back. To our surprise, we found her the next day on our front deck. We did not know that such a little dog could be so smart to return home after just a few days of living there. We also learned that she had been abused by a male in her early life. She was always very uncomfortable around men and watched them closely when they came near. With much love, Sugar turned into a very friendly and sweet companion and fit her name perfectly. She just needed love and a little time. Many people would say she was a frightening little dog. That’s because we taught her that our land was her territory. Of course, she was very protective and she barked at anything that intruded into her territory whether it was foxes, deer, people (UPS and friends) or other dogs. She was our little guard dog. And she did her job very well and acted like a queen on her throne looking over the land. Sugar was also taught a few tricks which she would gladly perform all at once if there was a treat waiting, especially sausage. Sit, lay, roll over, down and up were a few of them. Sugar was very spoiled with delicious leftovers and treats. She was a Colorado dog. She loved going for hikes in the mountains. Though it was exhausting for her, she loved every minute of it. She also enjoyed the bedtime stories she heard once in a while. Sadly, the week before she passed away she wasn’t quite herself. She was awfully quiet and not so energetic. Unexpectedly, Sugar broke a spinal disk in her lower back and the area became infected. Her nerves were pinched. She was susceptible to this condition because of her breed and nothing could be done. As the days went on she got worse, walking slower and soon enough she had no control of her hind legs. She stayed in her little bed not even able to lie down. She was taken to the vet and diagnosed with being paralyzed from waist down. She would no longer have use of her hind legs. It was our choice to put her out of her misery. It would be the best for her instead of struggling on pain killers for the rest of her life. So our Sugar baby passed on the afternoon of May 7th 2008. We miss her terribly and will always remember those moments when she made us laugh and even when she was naughty. We need our little guard dog. But we know that this was the best thing we could do for her. No matter how hard someone may try to hold on, letting go shows just how much you care. We miss you and you will be forever in our hearts Sugar baby. Love, Your family Add as favourites (2) | Quote this article on your site | Print | E-mail
