| Tribute to a Very Special Cat |

Tucker was discovered in the neighborhood about 4 or 5 years ago, after being 'discarded' by people no longer wishing to take responsibility for him. He was quite a guy. A good sized, short haired black cat with just a touch of white on his chest. Several of us in the neighborhood saw to it that Tucker had at least 3 squares a day (usually more). I wasn't able to take Tucker in my home because of my 4 other cats, but another lady in the neighborhood gave him a wonderful home in her basement. Tucker befriended her little Yorkie, Gabby. They became fast friends. I think that Tucker thought Gabby was a cat and Gabby thought Tucker was a dog. Tucker was just a joy to us all. He was loving and so very sweet. On good days when he would go out, he would always come to my house, acting like he was so hungry. . . And, of course, I would feed him, knowing full well that he had probably just been fed. Sometimes he would come by just to 'hang out', and I would sit with him sometimes, just petting him while he soaked it all in. Tucker was always very careful about crossing the street. It seemed that we had no worries about him getting hit by a car. One day, however, Tucker's luck ran out. While visiting a 'friend' of his across the street, Tucker was startled by something and ran across the street headed home. He was hit by a truck going over the speed limit. The truck didn't stop. Tucker is now at rest in my neighbor's flower bed. We are all devastated. Tucker was, indeed, one of the sweetest, most loving cats I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He took a little piece of our hearts and left us with unconditional love. We will miss him terribly and we will never forget him.             |
