We adopted McKenzie from the pound on September 16, 2010. She came home and it was apparant to us how excited she was to have a family that loved her and cared about her. Our son actually picked her out when we went to the pound. He saw her and simply fell in love. It was at that point that we knew that we had to have her.
McKenzie loved to run and play. One of her favorite games was fetch and for her being only 12 weeks old, she was very good at it. She would chase that ball for hours if you would let her! She also loved tug-o-war with her little toy doggy slipper that belonged to our daughter. It was very easy to fall in love with her. She had the sweetest face and loved to be held and rubbed.
On September 24th, our son woke up to go to school and unlike usual, McKenzie just laid there and watched him walk by. Any other time she would have jumped right up and been at his ankles. We knew something was wrong. On September 27th, McKenzie was taken to the vet because her stool was watery and bloody, she was vomiting, and she would eat or drink. The vet diagnosed her with Parvo. Our poor little baby that we had only had for 11 days passed away at 4:52 p.m. on September 27, 2010.
Parvo is a horrible, painful disease for dogs and watching McKenzie go through that broke our hearts. She was in so much pain that it hurt her to breathe.
We will miss her so much. She was only in our home for 11 days, but will remain in our hearts forever!
We love you, McKenzie! Rest easy now, baby!
