Death came at 12:03 am for a cherished member of my family and she was a wonderful pet.
Midnight
Sept 15, 1991 - Jan 4, 2008
Midnight came to our household from the Lake County Anmial Shelter in Florida. She along with her mother and siblings where picked up on the streets of Eustis, FL. We rescued her from the shelter right before she was to be put to sleep along with her family. Since no one had adopted them within thier time limit. Out of the litter only 2 seemed friendly and she was one, not really sure what made us choose her but we did. We all most didnt get her, it was all most Halloween and they didnt want to adopted out a black cat, due to what happens to some during Halloween, we convinced them that she would have a loving and caring home.
Many cats and dogs came and went over the next 18yrs, she was the one constant always there. She may have been a black cat but she was my good luck charm. It wasnt even a year later after we first got her that Hurrican Andrew hit, being from Kentucky and living in Florida for a number of years already we had never been thru a hurricane. We decided to ride out the storm in our home which was a mobile home at the time( not a good idea btw). It was my first week as a freshman in high school so my nerves werent the best to begin with that week, by Friday Andrew hit. The night of the storm I was scared, she of coarse wasnt. We felt the wind pick up the home from its pillars and set it right back down and what was she doing during this, laying there sleeping with not a care in the world.
We never had to put her in a cage when we traveled from Florida to Kentucky to visit my grandparents. She always rode in the back window enjoying the heat from the sun. She would bring us little presents (Frogs, Lizards, Green Snakes) from our screen room. I remember 1 day on the screenroom a doberman came up to the screen door and barked at her, she didnt hiss or meow at him, just reached up and pawed his nose and he took off, of coarse this was before I had her declawed ( little incident with my queen size waterbed). I never did see that dog again.
Midnight would adjust the therostat with her paws to get it to the tempertuare that she wanted. Maybe it was a bad idea to put a chair on that wall with the thermostat....lol. She did get my moms attention 1 day when she alerted her to the fact that my young sister and cousin where outside and going to ride their bikes, which they wherent suppose to be doing. This is also a cat that wouldnt kill a mouse she would just play with it. She use to chase Sweetie our hamster around in his little clear ball and sometimes he would chase her. Right now I think they have resumed playing together and she is making up for not chasing him for the last 10 yrs.
She was always there to greet me when I came home from school or work. I am going to miss that and her companionship. But god graced us with her presence for 18 yrs 3 months 19 days.
Midnight will be greatly missed and be in our hearts forever.
