Lexie in Whippet Wonderland
Written by Lexie Kohman
Lexie Girl crossed The Rainbow Bridge today, a sweet and classy whippet who stole our hearts. Despite grieving for the loss of our dear one, we remember with fond joy the time we took Lexie with us to Yellowstone. In some ways she was a bigger attraction than Old Faithful itself, at least with the kids and dog lovers. She was a beautiful dog, and had the soul to match.

She loved sniffing and flushing out all the squirrels and chipmunks who resided under the cabins. (But since Yellowstone is a National Park, she was always on her leash.) On her daily walks around Old Faithful she would even turn her head and look if someone else said "whippet" because she knew they were talking about her. "You're talking about me! Whee! Come and pet me!"

Lexie had so much fun in Yellowstone she wanted to get in the car and go back there as long as 2 weeks after we got home. Lexie had lots of other adventures: from the forests, beaches and dunes of Oregon, to exploring the interesting new smells and creatures in the Florida Keys. But she was happiest walking the oak woods and rolling fields of her Missouri home with her family.

I mentioned Lexie in the acknowledgment for my Lord of the Rings anthology, Lembas for the Soul: "To my sweet Elfhound, Lexie, for the hours of quiet companionship while I toiled away at the computer. A star surely lights the heavens in your honor."

Westu hal, Orlaith! Your star shines in the West tonight.
