In Remembrance of our Sweetest Benjamin |

We only had him for a short 4 ½ years, but he was full of love and joy and ENERGY every single day. The sweetest black toy poodle that was on one hand very fragile and then on the other was a “big dog” in a little dog body. My wife and I have re-shared so many wonderful memories of him over the last two weeks. And then we had to pick up his ashes today and all of the tragedy was revisited.
We have a laser-engraved block of granite on our fireplace hearth that states “Dogs Leave Footprints on Our Hearts”. Our thoughts of Benjamin as the little mischief maker, or as the friend-companion of his little long-haired Chihuahua buddy, Sampson, or as the loving little cuddler in bed with us bring knowing smiles to both of our faces. He always followed ‘mom’ every where she went, but he met me every night when I came home from work. He barked and barked and barked until I picked him up and he snuggled into my arm, content. He was a fickle eater and we had a ‘routine’ that had to be followed nearly every meal to insure that he ate his food. My wife had to call me over to show our Ben how much I wanted his food. He’d growl at me and bark a bit, but then he’d eat. And if I walked away then sometimes he’d stop and we’d do it all again.
All of our memories will keep him ‘alive’ for us as the pain of his leaving slowly disappears. I believe he’s with all of our other ‘babies’ and will join us when we depart this world. It was such a joy to have him with us for the time that we did. He has left his footprints on our hearts.
